Impatience

I’m finding that I’m incredibly impatient when it comes to:

1) ignorance
2) stupidity
3) illiteracy

It drives me crazy when people don’t know things. It’s really incredibly unfair and kind of mean and arrogant that I feel this way. But when I come across someone who’s *knowingly* ignorant, it drives me batty. Even when playing World of Warcraft, if I end up with someone who doesn’t know how to play, it really grates me (which is, btw, why I try not to play with RL friends in the same room, I’m afraid I’ll snap at them emotionally).

What’s even weirder is that I get really frustrated by people who profess to be computer illiterate. It’s like, they’re saying it with some kind of false pride. “Oh, I’m so busy, I don’t have TIME for these silly computer things. It’s like they’ve convinced themselves that they’re illiterate, therefore they refuse to learn. Gahhh.

This is why I can’t be a teacher.

Daily information

Here’s an interesting question: Where do you get your news? When the Daily Show used to be on, I actually used to rely on it for news. Mostly because I don’t read the newspaper, and it’s a lot more palatable than the dreck they show on the 24-hour news networks. News feeds are fine, but feeds tend to be a giant flood of unimportant and important information all mixed together in one giant feed soup, so I’m often in a desperate need for a filter. Every once in awhile I’ll launch SFGate.com for local stuff or check out the New York Times, but I’ll admit I don’t check those sites as often as I should. Sometimes I just want a quick and easy hit that I can digest easily while I go about my daily activities.

More and more, I turn to NPR’s 7AM ET News Summary podcast. All it takes is 5 minutes of my time, and I’m done. My only complaint is that it tends to be a day behind, but it’s better than nothing. Now, I’m not talking about technology stuff, because for that, I just tend to go back to the feeds. Though, when I’m reading about technology news, I tend to spend a LOT of time on it instead of just a few minutes, so that’s not exactly a great solution either. Then again, I like reading the geek stuff, but I’m weird that way.

So, where do you get your news?
