BART @ SFO

BART @ SFO

This is a photo I took at the BART stop in the San Francisco International Airport when I got home from Las Vegas. The perspective intrigued me, and I loved the orange cones. But I was so focused in the middle tunnel that I missed a lot of the details in the background. My friend, Ted Rheingold, took it upon himself to crop up the photo in multiple ways, revealing how complex this photo really is. It’s amazing. Check them out!

You’re on Notice: Social Networks edition

In the grand tradition of Stephen Colbert, I will now list out social networks and services which are “On Notice” and “Dead to Me”:

On Notice:

  • Facebook: I’ve had it up to here with your zombies and your vampires and your movie quizzes. What if I don’t WANT to be a pirate? Ever think about that? Still on the list, since too many of my friends are on it.
  • Dodgeball: Your locate function stinks, and your syntax is old. Still on the list, since it’s still somewhat useful. But not for very long.
  • Pownce: What ARE you? Twitter is better for quick thoughts. Tumblr is better for photos and video. Facebook and Upcoming are better for events. Pownce is good for… what, sharing the occasional music clip? A “discussion” thread? Not cutting it, man. Still on the list simply because of the music stuff.

Dead to Me:

  • MySpace: Need I say more?

Tumblr

I’m not too sure why it is, but I find myself to be a lot more open about my beliefs and thoughts on my Tumblr blog rather than this one. I think it has to do with its lower visibility and the lack of comments. The freedom to post about wacky stuff without any feedback is actually kind of good. That way I can talk about sex and politics and not feel too scared about getting crucified. Also, it’s easier to post tons of photos and videos in one shot, making it more like a giant scrapbook. As I mentioned to a friend earlier, Tumblr allows me to truly post stream-of-consciousness things without a lot of forethought, without a lot of thinking about quality and grammar, and without the traditional filters of proper etiquette and so forth. There is a danger to that obviously, but at least I also have the option of deleting posts, which I sometimes do.

So anyway, if you’re wondering why I haven’t been blogging for awhile, it’s because I’m over at Tumblr, posting YouTube videos of cats farting. Or something like that.
