CES Day 1: Is it over yet?

Wow. Where do I begin? Maybe with the humongous throng of people? Maybe with the hour-long queue for taxis? Maybe with the huge banners and corporate tents? I mean, really. This place is HUGE. This is my second year here, and I still haven’t got the hang of such huge crowds. As for me, I didn’t have a lot to do really (a lot of my work was done yesterday, believe it or not), but I did do a lot of running around to meet with people and pick up things from companies I haven’t really made a connection with yet. So, yea, productive day. Actually, I’m surprisingly enjoying this year more than I did last year. I guess the pressure isn’t as insane, and I feel like I’m getting more work done. Freaky.

Some interesting highlights: Even though television and home entertainment seems to be the big deal this year, I’m personally really just interested in the smaller gadgety type things. Like earbuds and laptop cases and small kitschy items. For example, I saw a bunch of remote control cars in this one store that looked really cool, and there were these interesting pirate-themed cell phone cases. Also, I don’t know if this makes me a weird domestic nerd of some kind, but my eyes lit up at these cool high-tech sewing machines from Brother. Automated embroidery is the wave of the future, OMG. (Actually, this makes me think they should somehow combine CES with a kitchen innovations show. I mean, hello — Internet refrigerators? It would fit right in!

Anyway, it’s currently 12:25 am here, and I have to get up really early in the morning — like 7 or so — so that I can get to the show and do a meeting before getting a couple of videos done. I’ll also have to write a couple of blog entries too, so maybe I should do them now instead…? I don’t know, I’m getting tired.

With that, I bid you (that’s like five of you) a good night. More tomorrow!
