I hate it when people use the word “blog” interchangably with “blog entry.” You don’t “post a blog”, you “post a blog entry.” A blog is the entire freaking weblog, a blog entry is one individual posting. You can’t post a blog to a blog! That’s just nonsensical!
I especially hate it when people who work in Silicon Valley or people who work in a technology-focused company mistake the two terms. Argh.
Chalk that one up as another pet peeve.
I find it particularly annoying when people brush me off as a crazy pedant when I correct things like this. Yet they would find it equally absurd if you used the word “page” and “book” interchangably.
Call it “precision in language” where only lawyers, journalists and PR folks can relate to.
Amen, sister! It’s especially irksome (and common) among business and mainstream media bloggers, too. It’s like, “Could you ‘not get it’ any worse?”
I agree… but what about saying “I’m going to blog this” as opposed to saying “I’m going to write a blog post about this”? Can “blog” as a verb be ok?
Blog as a verb is okay
As in “I am so blogging this!”
