Wired News: How To Fight Splogs
Yeah, I wrote it. I’m fairly glad with how it turned out, although I’m a little disappointed I wasn’t able to fit any of Matt Haughey’s quotes in, as well as a lot of what Chris Pirillo ranted to me about. I’m also slapping myself on the forehead for not linking to LaughingSquid in the article (we’re supposed to link these things ourselves). The introduction paragraphs were done super last minute, and I just forgot. I already apologized to Scott Beale via IM, and I tried to email Wired News about adding the links, but I don’t know if they respond to that kinda thing. I’m also slapping myself for not specifying that it’s Blogspot, not really Blogger (though it’s kinda sorta the same thing). Plus I totally missed the ball about Akismet (because I only found about it like, today). Ah well, it’s my first Wired News article, so I guess these mistakes are okay. But next time, man, I should totally be more diligent about this stuff.
Anyway, as you can see, this freelancing thing has kinda launched, albeit at a somewhat rocky start. It was fun speaking to Matt and Chris, and I even got to speak to Jason Goldman to get the official word of what they did. And Scott, of course, helped out some with his anecdotes. Again, somewhat disappointed I wasn’t able to fit all the quotes in, but I guess it’s better to have too much material than too little. Here’s to hoping I write a better article next time. And there will be a next time, if I have anything to do with it.
… Although… if next week turns out the way I like, I might not even need a next time. We’ll see.
