Malaysia Boleh, baby
by Nicole Lee
Check. It. Out. The 48th Annual San Francisco International Film Festival has not one, not two, but — count ‘em and weep folks — FIVE Malaysian films in its Box Office lineup. And you knows the Malaysian pride runs deep in me when I say that I’ll try to watch EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM. I SWEAR. It’ll be tough, especially considering the weird timing on a couple of ‘em, but I so will. Just to give some big ups to the home team, y’ know.
Here’s the Malaysian film lineup for the S.F. Film Festival this year. The Kabuki is a cinema in Japantown S.F., and the Pacific Film Archive is in Berkeley. The date/time when I plan to be going is in bold.

For what it’s worth, the ones to watch seem to be Princess Mount Ledang (most expensive Malaysian film to-date) and Split Screen (just ’cause Amir is the r0x0rs). I totally encourage everyone to go watch ‘em, Malaysian or not. You may even see me there
w00t! You go, girl! I’m especially bummed that I can’t schedule a showing of The Gravel Road, so you’ll just have to let me know how it is. Hope to see you at the Kabuki tomorrow!
you should watch sepet though. the film was discussed in parliament because of some scene. read the director blog at http://yasminthestoryteller.blogspot.com
Neek, it’s been said that Sepet is the best Malaysian film ever … so whatever you do, do *not* miss it. Happy Birthday (in advance, because I’m bound to miss it).
