Our wedding plans are now still rather loose and in the air, but I think we have a basic theme already in mind — casual, quirky, fun, and definitely very personal touches in the decor, invitations, and so forth. As you know, we don’t have a lot of money, so we have to be creative in terms of decorations, food, and so forth.
One of the things that we really want to incorporate is our love for comics, cartoons, and the geekier side of our relationship. He’ll design the invitations with a comic version of ourselves, and we might be handing out mini-comics to our guests. The decor might be a collage of our photos, drawings, etc. The wedding music will be a combined playlist of our favorite artists, that we’re thinking of broadcasting from my iPod. He’ll most likely put Weezer stuff on there, and I’ll definitely have They Might Be Giants on heavy rotation (Another First Kiss being a romantic favorite). The older relatives probably won’t get it, but we frankly don’t care.
The food would be mostly hor’dourves, like sushi, little sandwiches, cheese and crackers, etc. Although this could all change, since we’re thinking getting someone to cater the food would be easier. The location would be at Brandon’s parent’s house, that has a lovely garden at the back. It’s quite a small place, but they say they can open up the basement/garage for more people. We’re thinking like 30-40 people now, but this could change also.
We might be handing out disposable cameras to everyone and let those be a substantial portion of our wedding pictures — it’d be too expensive to hire a photographer. I might let someone use my digital camera, and Brandon’s brother has a video camera, so we can work it out somehow. I’m hoping someone else brings a pretty good camera so we can rely on them to take good pictures.
Finally, just for a lark, I suggested having a couple of the Kid Robot action figures as our “caketops.” I just think it’d be hilarious. We could be a couple of bears, or Japanese manga characters. Brandon thought it was a cool idea too, so we might actually end up doing something like that.
Oh yes indeedy, it’ll be a very quirky and fun geeky wedding. I wonder if we can actually pull it off!
Needs more transforming robots.
I think that the more personalized your wedding is, the happier you will be at it. And that’s the point, right? Not to mention it sounds like it should be fun for the people who will be attending. I often think about things like that: how does one come up with a relatively inexpensive, yet fun and individual wedding plan? Seems like you’re doing a great job so far!
Will there be WiFi?
Oh c’mon, you know I had to ask…
