About neekole.com

Primarily a blog about my personal life. With occasional tangents that indulge my geekiness. Why neekole.com? Because nicole.com was taken, and my IRC friends like calling me “neek.” Long story.

About me

My name is Nicole Lee and I’m a geek. I have this curious obsession with computers, technology, and various aspects of pop culture. My hobbies include tinkering with this blog, chatting online, writing silly things, cooking, and reading. I also have a great deal of affection for comics (mostly Vertigo and independent/small press titles, as well as online comics).

I was born and raised in Malaysia, and moved to San Francisco in 1999 to attend San Francisco State University. I earned a Bachelors of Arts in Journalism and English Literature in 2002, and a Masters of Arts in Speech & Communication Studies in 2004.

I married Brandon Hanvey on February 12, 2005. We met on the Internet in 2002, and he proposed to me in 2003 on a beach in San Diego. We’re proof that Internet dating sites can work, but only if you’re ridiculously fortunate, happen to be in the same area code, and willing to fork out some cash. We often joke that we only paid $10 for each other.

Career-wise, I have taken advantage of my journalism education and my love for technology, and combined them into my recent path in technology journalism. I’m currently an Associate Editor for CNET.com’s mobile reviews division, after having been a reporter for Gizmodo, a products intern at WIRED Magazine, and a web intern at TechTV. You can take a full look at my resume for more information of my work experience.

Few of my favorite non-techy obsessions include: Alton Brown, Neil Gaiman, They Might Be Giants, dim sum, and sushi.

I can also be found blogging at Overheard in Azeroth and Crave. I’m also involved in Dialed In, a CNET podcast centering around cell phones.
